The Trudeau government confirmed on Tuesday the award of a $ 500 million contract to the Davie shipyard for the maintenance of three of the twelve frigates of the Royal Canadian Navy.

The announcement was made simultaneously at the Seaspan shipyard in Vancouver by Minister Carla Qualtrough and by Minister Jean-Yves Duclos Davie shipyard, from Lévis, at noon.

Several hundred workers on the yard, tested in recent years by the lack of work unlike the Seaspan and Irving shipyards – prioritized by Ottawa in the National Shipbuilding Strategy -, were smiling when this announcement was made in a huge hangar in the construction site.

The $ 500 million frigate maintenance contract, the largest awarded by the Canadian government in Davie history, should bring great stability to the Lévis construction site, by providing workers with work for several years.
